Yogyakarta, 8th November 2019 - Year by year, the utilization of cloud computing technology has become massive. Its ability to allow the installation of various applications on multiple computers, opens up greater prospects for this technology to develop even more in the future. To discuss further on how the development of this technology affects the future of mankind, CfDS invited Gunawan Susanto, the Country Leader of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Indonesia, to share his thoughts on CfDS CEOTalk #6 that was held at Auditorium FISIPOL UGM, on Friday (8/11).

The need for many private sectors to minimize their costs and enlarge their markets can be solved through innovations. Gunawan then explained how from 1995 to today, there has been an increase of cost efficiency for technology startups that use physical hardware and proprietary software. One of the results of these innovations is the cloud computing technology that has allowed multiple startups to magnify the efficiency of their businesses.

Gunawan also added that there are several salient examples of the startups which have gained benefits from using AWS. Bhinneka (a retail and wholesale industry) was mentioned to be one of the examples that has succeeded in reducing Time-to-Market by 50%. HARA (blockchain-based data exchange for the food and agriculture sector) has also reduced its IT cost up to 70%. AWS have been continually expanding its services to support virtually any cloud workload.

“To accomplish such innovations, it requires bright ideas and knowledge on the rapid changes of costumer’s preferences.” said Gunawan. Currently, AWS has the most robust services, more than 160 fully-featured technology infrastructure platform. He believes that it can only be possible because of the AWS Pace of Innovation which is not stagnant to the principle ideas and is always focusing on the changes from the customers. AWS is also concerned about “security responsibility”. Henceforth, for them, having various data centers can be more reliable and safer than only having a centralized data center. Through two batches (orange and blue), Gunawan explained that AWS has restricted its own ability to grasp any customer's data. Lastly, he emphasized that invention comes in many forms and at many scales, the most radical and most transformational inventions are often those that empower others to unleash their creativity - to pursue their dreams.
