[PRESS RELEASE] | The 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series

Yogyakarta, August 20th, 2021 — The Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia (Kominfo RI), the National Digital Literacy Movement SIBERKREASI, and the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada officially launched the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series (20/9). This launch was opened by the Director General of Information Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, which was followed by a Digital Intelligence Discussion with Iqbaal Ramadhan as a representative of Indonesia’s digital talent, with a total of 28,000 virtual participants via the Zoom platform.

This launch also opens the inaugural class for the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series (MKKD). The course series is supported by multidisciplinary academics from Universitas Gadjah Mada and DRC Campus Fryslan the University of Groningen, as well as expert practitioners from well-known national and global technology companies including AINO, Huawei, and Progate.

In the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series opening, various representatives of government institutions, academics, and platforms were also involved, including Dr. Ir. Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, M.Eng as Director of Information Empowerment at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi as Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Dr. Oskar Josef Gstrein as Assistant Professor at the Department of Governance and Innovation of Campus Fryslân, Yunny Christine as Director of Corporate Affairs Huawei Indonesia, Hastono Bayu as CEO of AINO Indonesia, and Norman Ganto as Country Manager for Progate Indonesia.

Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan as Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information said, “For participants who take part in the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series, recognize the problems around us and try to find solutions. These solutions will create innovations. In addition, don’t just work alone because the digital era is an era of collaboration.”

He also said that digital intelligence is urgently needed considering the primary goal of achieving Indonesia as an advanced digital country according to the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. Samuel A. Pangerapan revealed that when the government is willing to carry out digital transformation, the quality of digitally capable human resources also needs to be improved.

In addition, Iqbaal Ramadhan conveyed his experience in interacting in the digital world in his discussion. He stated that one of the essential things in digital literacy skills is forming critical thinking skills, namely how people can absorb various available information properly. The improving skills will then lead to strengthening public understanding of hoaxes and misinformation/disinformation.

Iqbaal also added his hopes for the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series, “I hope that these classes can be an opportunity for everyone to understand that technology was created to help humans. In the end, human resources are the key. Hopefully, this class can open our eyes that the future of Indonesia starts with all of us.”

More than 9,700 participants from all provinces in Indonesia have joined this course series. This course series is targeted at students in all universities in Indonesia and general participants from various backgrounds. This 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series is also included in the Merdeka Belajar, Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Therefore, students from various universities can get semester credit unit scores (SKS) in their lecture transcripts. This course will last for one semester with an online method using the Kecerdasan Digital platform (kecerdasandigital.id). 

The 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series encourages participants’ digital skills, especially in digital literacy and digital mindset, to solve social problems. Furthermore, this program is expected to prepare students and the public to compete in the era of digital transformation. Therefore, the 2021 Kecerdasan Digital Course Series was also carried out in collaboration with several partners, namely Facebook, Google, Iykra, Bukalapak, LINE, and Japelidi.

The course series is divided into the Basic Digital Intelligence class and the Advanced Digital Intelligence class. In the Basic Digital Intelligence class, participants will be guided by experts from Progate Indonesia and invited to learn about the digital mindset, design thinking, and the introduction of basic coding (HTML, CSS, SQL). Meanwhile, in the Advanced Digital Intelligence class, there are four main streams including:

  • Cybersecurity for All with the support of lecturers from Universitas Gadjah Mada and DRC Campus Fryslan the University of Groningen
  • Data Science for Social Goods with the support of experts from AINO Indonesia
  • AI with a cause with the support of experts from Huawei Indonesia.

This course will bring newness to the learning experience and increase digital literacy and knowledge for class participants throughout Indonesia. Under the selected class, participants can improve their digital skills. So later, these achievements are expected to be a provision for participants to implement them in various fields of knowledge occupied by each participant for solving social problems following the conditions of each region.
