[PRESS RELEASE] Supplychain Management and Technology | Digitalk #43

Google Meeting Room, September 25, 2020 – Supply Chain Management plays an essential role in delivering goods from producers to consumers. This aspect also affects the increasing number of business groups that require delivery services, such as online trading in the digital world. In collaboration with Paxel, Center for Digital Society (CfDS) held the 43rd series of Digitalk, which also invited Zaldy Ilham Masita as the Co-founder of Paxel, where he shared and discussed the role of technology in the supply chain sector.

Digital Evolution in the Supply Chain in Indonesia

Zaldy started his session by explaining the slower development of the logistics industry compared to other industries. However, by optimizing digital and technology, there are many benefits from the efficiency side. Such as cheaper logistics costs and easier delivery. Then Zaldi added that logistics digitization could also improve service levels and maximize asset use, as a measure to reduce inventory costs and provide a better user experience. He also emphasized that this digital presence is not a “magic” that can solve all supply chain problems. Still, this industry must start collaborating and innovating with digital technology to help solve these problems.

The impact of Covid-19 on supply chain and logistics in Indonesia

During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was an increase in the purchase of goods through e-commerce from 10-12% to 20-30%, which impacted the supply chain and logistics in Indonesia. Based on the explanation from Zaldy, there is a shifting category in the types of objects sold. The products sold were goods flow types such as clothes, accessories, household appliances, etc. Meanwhile, the products being sold are in the Core Product Category, such as soap, vegetables, and other primary products. Aside from that, the flow of goods movement has also changed. Previously, there were more shipments of goods from Jabodetabek, but now it is more dominated by shipments of goods from M & SMEs outside Jabodetabek to Jabodetabek. On the other hand, a shift in the supply chain has also occurred, particularly in the import and export goods from abroad. It has resulted in a scarcity of goods in several sectors.

In closing his presentation, Zaldy Masita stated that digital presence is not just talking about technology, but it is also a new way to solve logistical problems. He also advised M & SMEs players to be more creative to fill the void for imported goods during the Covid-19 pandemic.
