Yogyakarta, March 20th, 2020 - Artificial intelligence (AI) is a form of intelligence that is added to an electronic system that refers to the original human intelligence. With so many features possessed by this techonolgy, AI is considered to be able to analyze a problem in a shorter period than human can do. That is why the presence of AI is often considered to be able to replace human intelligence and eliminate the role of professionals in dealing with a problem. That concern aside, this technology is capable of assisting human’s work in several aspects of life. Therefore, in this 20th series of Diffussion, Center for Digital Society (CfDS) discussed how artificial intelligence can solve social problems in society, including to the recent issue of COVID-19 mitigation and its use to detect human mental health. In regards to the global suggestion of physical distancing due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Diffusion was held through a live streaming on YouTube platform, which also invited Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan as CTO Widya Analytics and Vidiskiu Fortino as CfDS’ research associate.
AI and Big Data Approach for COVID-19 Mitigation Plan in Indonesia
On the first session, Mardhani opened the discussion by explaining that artificial intelligence is a technology that can analyze problems and provide recommendations to someone to make choices, through combination of several technological components. Mardhani then went on to give a real example of the technology, where he explained about the ‘covid19.gamabox.id’, a website he and his team built that aims to help stakeholders and the government to overcome the mitigation of the COVID-19 issue. The website was built based on the large amount of information about the COVID-19, which are not entirely true or stay true the facts, while on the other hand, the society is also confused to understand the information. The website obtains data through various channels, such as online news portals, social media, with online survey embedded to this website. Through this website, AI has the duty to provide analytical results that are easy to understand, and it is hoped that the technology is able to provide solutions for COVID-19’S mitigation plans. Closing his presentation, Mardhani said that we don't need to feel intimidated by technologies such as AI or big data, because the technology serves as our helper to contribute to a broader society.
Detection of Mental Health Disorder on Facial Images Using Artificial Intelligence
In line with Mardhani, Vidiskiu also considers artificial intelligence only as a supporting tool for someone, because artificial intelligence will help make it easier for us to make choices. Besides, artificial intelligence also requires human to input the data. On the next session, Vidiskiu discussed the use of artificial intelligence on identifying mental health disorder through facial analysis, especially using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). This network is an architecture paradigm of deep neural networks that imitates neurological system by adding layers that have similar functions to the visual cortex, using image dataset. Through this technology, user can predict the level of possibilities from someone’s chance to experience a mental health disorder, through detection and analysis on someone’s mouth, eyes and nose. Closing his presentation, Vidiskiu also emphasized that this should not necessarily eradicate the psychologists, but this only serves as a tool to help the psychologists to decide and give an overview of someone's mental health disorder.
